The American Heart Association's ACLS Course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS for Healthcare Provider skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR.  This advanced, instructor led classroom course highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac arrest care.  The ACLS course also covers airway management and related pharmacology.

In the ACLS Course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.  Successful course completion includes demonstrating skills competency in all learning stations and passing the CPR and AED skills test, bag-mask ventilation skills test, a Megacode test and a written test.  Upon successful completion, students receive an ACLS Provider card, valid for two years.

Colorado CPR Association requires that all students have a current American Heart Association BLS course completion card to attend this course.  No exceptions will be made because all students use many of their BLS skills in an ACLS course.  Please fax your current BLS card and ACLS Pretest with a minimum of 80% to 303-980-6375 or scan and email it to cocprassn@comcast.net. The course is scheduled for 8 hours the first day and 4 hours the second day.  All students MUST have the current student manual prior to the course.  If you need to purchase a manual, you must call the office (303-980-1015) to purchase it and have it shipped or you may pick it up. The cost of the ACLS Provider manual is $45.00.  Colorado CPR Association is committed to all students being successful in this course; the registration for the course closes one week prior to the course so that all students can complete the pretest and be ready for the course.

The American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification course covers the methods needed to effectively facilitate a course with the BLS for Healthcare Provider curriculum or the Heartsaver curriculum.  This is a two year certification.  All instructor candidates must have the instructor manual(s) for the curriculum that you are going to teach.  There are prerequisites that must be completed prior to attending the BLS Instructor certification course that are as follows:

1.  All instructor candidates must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card (if you don't have this, you will need to complete this course before going any further, please register at www.cocprassn.com)

2.  Complete the Instructor Candidate Application found on Colorado CPR's website and email to cocprassn@comcast.net for acceptance by the Training Center Coordinator

Once these prerequisites are complete, please register for the BLS Instructor certification course.  After attending the BLS Instructor certification course each instructor candidate will be monitored teaching a BLS course in the Training Center as the lead instructor.  It is the instructor's responsbility to know the material covered in the BLS course.  Colorado CPR highly recommends watching the BLS DVD at least one time prior to attempting to be monitored teaching it.  Not all instructor candidates meet the AHA guidelines for becoming instructors - especially instructors that are unprepared.  The Training Center Coordinator can recommend that the instructor candidate be monitored teaching another course if they do not meet the standard the first time, or the candidate may have to attend the BLS Instructor certification course again.  There will be no refunds once the candidate has attended the BLS Instructor certification course.
